Have you ever wondered what skill or genetic variable Mozart or Beethoven had that you don’t?
Imagine being able to listen to any song and being able to identify what key the song is in and what scales the writer used.
You could be a savant at any instrument you wanted in record time. You could easily and naturally identify any note and immediately reproduce it on the instrument of your choice.
Interested? I bet you are.
This skill is what people call “Perfect pitch”
What exactly is perfect pitch?
To explain perfect pitch, let us start with a term called “Relative Pitch”. Relative pitch is the ability to identify or reproduce a musical note with the aid of another note to compare it to. Perfect pitch is the ability to identify or reproduce a musical note without the aid of an objective note for guidance. It is the zenith of musical skills.
People who possess perfect pitch have a complete understanding of music and its inner workings. They can name all the notes that make up a given chord. They can also sing a given pitch without any sort of reference. They can even name the pitches of common everyday things like clapping or doors slamming. For a successful musician, having perfect pitch is a like a skeleton key to unlock all other abilities.
Musicians like Mozart, Beethoven, and even Jimi Hendrix all possessed perfect pitch.
I know what you must be thinking; those musicians were born with perfect pitch, it can’t be learned, right? Wrong!
With the proper training, anyone can learn how to identify notes without reference. There are many products out there that can train your mind to have perfect pitch. The actual ear of people who have perfect pitch is no different than other people.
Their hearing is no different, and their sensitivity to sound doesn’t change. What changes is analyzing the frequency and giving it a label (such as D flat).
Just as people learned to identify the color green (which is just a certain wavelength of light), you too can learn to identify a C sharp just as easily.
As mentioned earlier, there are many ways to train yourself to get perfect pitch. You can hire a music teacher, or even buy many award winning products online. Whether you are an aspiring guitarist or you just want to be able to sing better, having perfect pitch will make things much easier for you and allow you to go farther into your desired career.
